Niche Market Growth - 6

One final consideration for your Internet business niche market is the potential for growth. This means not only considering the ability of the industry to grow in the direction from which you intend to approach it, but also the growth in number of competitors.

After all, as each industry becomes more lucrative, more businesses tend to enter the market and become competition for existing businesses. What can you expect for the future of your niche market and business?

Your short list took into account many of the opinions that make the difference in your choice of homes. You know that the properties you are left with to consider meet most of your expectations in your second home purchase, and all are within your budgetary range.

Now, there are other pertinent questions to ask yourself to help determine which of those properties is going to be most appropriate for your purposes. What do you foresee happening with your property in the future? Is it simply a vacation home, or will it turn into a retirement home? Are you going to rent it to vacationers or lease it long term?

Are you interested in selling the property as the value rises? It’s also important to look at not only what you CAN afford but what you want to pay. Just because you can afford a $1500 second mortgage doesn’t mean you want to strain your budget like that.

IS THERE A FUTURE IN THE BUSINESS?

You obviously don’t want to enter into a business that has no future. For example, in this day and age of the computer, it would not make much sense to manufacture typewriters.

When most movies are released on DVD, you probably wouldn’t do well selling VCR’s. You want to opt for something that is going to last and always be in demand, as discussed previously.

For example, people will always need a place to sleep, so mattresses and bed frames will always have a place in the market. In some parts of the country, the weather will always get hot in the summer, and personal fans and other cooling devices will always be in need. Determining the ability of your niche market business to succeed depends much on the ability to maintain profits.

Will the Profits Hold Out?

Whether or not your profits will hold out depends strongly on your flexibility and the changes in the marketplace, as well as the wants and needs of consumers. When looking at the pet vitamin business, there is clear potential for profitability far into the future.

People have almost always had pets, as far back as history can record, and as people begin to live longer lives, they want to keep their pets around longer. At no time in the near future is there a foreseeable change in human interest in dogs and cats as pets, and there is no indication that these pet owners will ever cease to care about the health of their beloved pets.

If you objectively analyze your own niche market in this manner, you’ll find that you can get a clear understanding of what you can expect in future profitability with little effort.

What are the Potential Changes in the Market?

If, then, there is a clear place for your niche in the future, what changes could occur that would affect your business? In the example we’ve followed through this discussion, the discovery of new and better medications and supplements could change the face of vitamins provided to animals.

At the same time, if it is found that an ingredient once thought to be helpful to animals could actually harm a dog’s health, there would be a drastic change. You should closely evaluate all such possibilities and be willing to be flexible in the future when inevitable changes do make a difference in the profitability of your niche market within the industry
